Publishers Weekly: The Most Anticipated Books of May 2015

PW asked its review editors to pick the most notable books being published in Spring 2015. Listed below are the ones coming out in May, by category: Fiction, Mystery/Crime/Thriller, SciFi/Fantasy/Horror, Young Adult and History. May should be a merrie month, indeed.

Fiction
Kate Atkinson’s A God In Ruins is a companion to her Life After Life. It’s the story of Ursula’s younger brother, Teddy, “would-be poet, RAF bomber pilot, husband, and father.”

Mystery/Crime/Thriller
Jason Matthews’ Palace of Treason is a sequel to Red Sparrow. A Russian Intelligence Agent, Capt. Dominika Egorova, is working for the CIA.

Jack of Spades by Joyce Carol Oates, tells the story of a successful mystery writer who produces “lurid, violent potboilers” under a pen name – and risks his career if his secret is revealed.

Sci Fi/Fantasy/Horror
In The Book of Phoenix by Nnedi Okorafor, Phoenix, an “accelerated woman,” has been raised in New York’s Tower 7. She is only two years old but has the body and mind of an adult, as well as superhuman abilities. When her beloved commits suicide, she realizes that the tower is her prison and decides to escape.

Young Adult
Sarah Dessen’s Saint Anything is the story of a teenager dealing with her older brother’s recklessness.

History
Joseph Ellis adds another to his long list of splendid books on the founding of the country with The Quartet: Orchestrating the Second American Revolution, 1783-1789.
