The Burlington (NC) Writers
Club is now accepting entries for its 2015 Adult Writers Contest. It is open to
writers in Alamance, Caswell, Chatham, Durham, Guilford, Orange, Randolph and
Rockingham counties. Cash prizes will be offered in six categories and rules are
below. Deadline is
March 14.
Rules
- Adult writers living in Alamance, Caswell, Chatham, Durham, Guilford, Orange, Randolph, and Rockingham Counties, NC are eligible.
- Manuscripts, including poetry, must be the original, unpublished work of the contestant, not pending publication, and must not have received a first place award in any competition.
- Writers may submit one (1) entry in each category. No entry may be placed in more than one category.
- Poetry Requirements: Two (2) original or clear copies. NO index cards. • 1st copy: Place member/non-member, county, title, category, name, address, telephone, e-mail address at top right of page.
- Prose Requirements: Two (2) original or clear copies. NO index cards.

• 2nd copy: Do NOT place name on entry. Place TITLE ONLY at top of page. 5,000 word maximum, 11 or 12 point size font, double spacing, on 8½ x 11 white plain paper with no designs on the paper. No illustrations.
Keep copy for your records. Please follow instructions to ensure judging. - Burlington Writers Club members may enter free. Deadline for $15.00 membership dues is December 31, 2014. Non-member entry fee is $8.00 per entry for Poetry and $10.00 per entry for Prose. No cash will be accepted through the mail. Checks or money orders are to be made payable to the Burlington Writers Club and attached to your entries.
- Deadline for entries is March 14, 2015. No entries postmarked after that date will be accepted. Entries may be brought to the March 14th meeting. All inquiries, requests for manuscripts, judge’s comments and winners’ list must be accompanied by a self-addressed envelope (SASE) with correct postage. Entries without SASE or not picked up at the Awards Banquet on May 12th will be destroyed.
- First place winners will receive $25.00 and a Certificate of Merit. They will be asked to read their winning entry or designate a reader. Time limit is seven (7) minutes or four (4) double spaced pages for prose. Second place winners will receive $15.00 and a Certificate of Merit. Third place winners will receive $10.00 and a Certificate of Merit. Honorable mentions will receive a Certificate of Merit.
- The Awards Banquet will be held on Tuesday, May 12th at 6:30 p.m. The specifics of location and price will be announced along with notification to the winners. Reservations are required. Cost of meal per person, or change of location of banquet will be announced at least one month before banquet, if not before.
Any category which does not have at least six (6) entries will be eliminated. First place winners of the 2014 contest are not eligible to enter the categories in which they won. A category manager is not eligible to enter the category she/he manages. Manuscripts may be written upon by the judges.
