Pat Shipman, Shelia Rudesill & Fran Wood

Pat Shipman’s newest book, THE INVADERS: HOW HUMANS AND THEIR DOGS DROVE NEANDERTHALS TO EXTINCTION (the subject of an earlier blog post) is now the #1 best seller in three different categories: Biology of Fossils, Paleontology and Physical Anthropology. It’s getting big play in the UK as well as here. You can order it from Harvard University Press, Amazon, and elsewhere. Congratulations to the author!

Check out Shelia Bolt Rudesill’s blog at chancewriter.blogspot.com. Her two most recent posts are reviews of Susanna Daniel’s SEA CREATURES and Stephan J. Myers’ THE PRAYER.

Shelia was a pediatric nurse for forty-five years before turning to fiction. Her four novels are available through Amazon and other sources. Of herself, she says, “Besides loving my husband and loving to read and write, I admit to a weakness for dry martinis, evening gowns, and dancing with cats.” A wonderful title for another novel: “Dry Martinis, Evening Gowns, and Dancing With Cats.”

Another excellent blog about books is Fran Wood’s “What Fran’s Reading” at NJ.com. Fran is a retired columnist and books editor for the Star Ledger of Newark, NJ. She’s also an award-winning artist – see some of her portfolio at franwood.com.

The range of books (and audio books) that she reviews is astonishing. The last few reviews are of FEAR CITY (book three in F. Paul Wilson’s REPAIRMAN JACK EARLY YEARS triology), Jeffrey Deaver’s THE STARLING PROJECT, and Barbara Leaming’s JACQUELINE BOUVIER KENNEDY ONASSIS.

Always a good read.
